Semana 2

¡Hola otra vez!

Wanted to update you all on how my first weekend in Oviedo went.

I live in Fresneda, which is kind of like a neighborhood but with a plaza, library, supermarket, and various parks. Five other students live in Fresneda too. Saturday, my roomate Julia and I spent the day with Chela and Angela, who live about 10 minutes away from us. We spent a lot of time in the plaza, exploring the book and movie rental store. We also ate ice cream (which, in my opinion, is 100x better than the ice cream in the US) and spent time talking inside the cafe. I finally was able to find and buy a card to call the US and spent almost 20 minutes talking with my family. It was hard and a bit strange to find words to say in English, but it was even harder to say goodbye. Thank goodness for this one hour of internet a week.

Sunday, my family and Chela and Angela´s family spent the day in the mountains. Chela and Angela´s host mom, Salome owns another house there. I took probably over 200 pictures that day, of everything. Little towns in the distance, flowers, snails, antique decorations, you name it; I have a picture of it. Salome invited her friends and their grandsons, Pablo (7) and Fernando (13) over for lunch, which consisted of paella, a famous dish in Oviedo, beef, and my favorite, arroz con leche. After lunch, we all went for a long walk in the mountains. Words can´t even describe how beautiful it was. I intended on posting pictures, but I can´t with the computer I am currently using.

Monday, after school, Chela, Angela, Julia and I watched Aladdin (in Spanish, of course). It wasn´t too hard to understand, but it was fun to hear how the ¨Spanish¨ Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie talked.

We´re going on our first excursion tomorrow to Monte Naranco, probably one of the most famous sites in Oviedo. I´ll for sure take lots of pictures and find a way to post them on here.

¡Adiós!
